Movie Review
Not knowing anything about the book I walked in to this expecting a fun and creepy horror film. What I got was easily one of the most unforgettable film experiences I’ve ever had. Gruesome and disturbing without ever being worthless. As a matter of fact, the most incredible thing about the film is how fantastic the direction and performances are. The woman who plays Ruth makes one of the most frightening monsters in film history. Hats off to the rest of the cast and crew for making a film that’s going to take me a while to shake off. I’m not gonna go into details of the tale. All I’m saying is SEE IT. You won’t be sorry you did. –By Hort Mortigan
I walked out of the theater numb and shaking. Very skillfully done, it was a horrifying look at severe child abuse with wonderful acting and full of tension. A third of the people in the theater everywhere I saw this film at were crying or in tears as we left the construction. Knowing it was based on a right tale made it even more tragic. An emotional rollercoaster ride if you are courageous enough to mind. You’ll never forget it. Unforgettable and Painfully Powerful. Highly recommended. –By Holly E. Wilson
Plot Outline
Meg Loughlin’s parents are dead, causing her and her sister to live with their aunt Ruth. Ruth is not like the other parents: she allows the neighborhood children to smoke and taste, and has an intense dislike for Meg — for no real reason. With telling the police about mistreatment, Meg’s punishment becomes more and more severe.
